January Recap

I've finished my first full month of My Vagabond Year and have had some surprises.

First off, I've been surprised at how much people seem to be enjoying the daily drawings I've made and posted on Facebook.  I guess I've always thought social media that showed what a person is doing or thinking was an ego trip - me me me meeee.  It never had occurred to me that others would actually take a measure of vicarious pleasure in following my escapades.

The second surprise is the work that has come out of a random idea, namely drawing with Sharpie on plastic cards.  When you see them on FB, they show up much larger than the actual picture, which is the size of a credit card.  I'd expect miniatures to look less interesting when blown up, but I suppose since I have such microscopic vision, what's actually happening is that the detail that I see on the tiny card is showing up for everyone when viewed larger. I've looked at more than one of the sketches and thought, "If only I could paint something like this on a large canvas..."

Here's a Vine I posted showing me making a card. More of my Vines here...

I've also started a Pinterest page with the cards for each day.  On Facebook, I created a page for those who want to follow My Vagabond Year and not all the other Facebook stuff I might post.

Anyway, I'm committed now to doing one a day for the whole year.  I don't know what will come of it, but I'm curious myself, and I suppose, judging from all the responses on Facebook so far, that you are too.
